Cemstone’s unique range of simulate stone products are innovative, trendy and environmentally friendly.

The company started out in 2003 in a small shed on Visserhoek Road in Durbanville and has moved and expanded twice since then to become a national company. The rapid growth of Cemstone’s customer base can be attributed to the company’s unique handmade products coupled with its excellent after sales service.

Cemstone’s range of simulated stone products are created from a mix of white cement, aggregate and additive mix which forms a concrete like substance. The products are a brilliant simulation of natural stone substances at a fraction of the cost.

The company’s innovative range of products include cladding, cobbles, edging, tiles, straight edge pavers and copings. Because of concrete’s durable nature these can be used outside as well as inside. Cemstone has become the trendsetter, in an often bland industry, with its individually handcrafted products.

During the seven years that Cemstone has been in the industry it has developed a reputation for having high quality products and providing superior customer service. The innovative nature of the products have made Cemstone trendsetters in the industry as the company continues to produce natural looking simulated stone products that have the advantage of being both cheaper and more environmentally friendly than natural stone products.

Cemstone’s concrete brick, tile and cladding products are wet cast into high quality moulds and naturally cured which results in a much lower embodied energy than baked clay alternatives.

The baking processes used in creating certain other products are often fuelled with coal as the source of heat energy which emits large quantities of greenhouse gasses into the earth’s atmosphere. Cemstone’s technique of naturally curing its products makes use of the sun’s energy and so does not negatively impact on the environment.

Concrete is both an environmentally sustainable choice and an economically viable one. Its thermal mass contributes to operating energy efficiency and reducing cooling costs as well as creating longer lasting structures which eliminates the need for maintenance or reconstruction.

The high operating energy efficiency of the cement products gives you low cost options that do not require any additional painting or sealing.

Cemstone is committed to working towards finding environmentally sustainable options to incorporate into its production processes. One of the techniques that Cemstone uses is the use of recycled aggregate which replaces some of the stone required in the manufacturing process which reduces its consumption of stone as well as reducing the company’s environmental footprint.

Cemstone believes that education is key to the environmental wellbeing of the local community and with that in mind the company has initiated certain projects that will educate, assist and inform company staff and the local community about important social and environmental issues. One of these projects is a 100% organic vegetable garden for Cemstone staff which has been built at the company’s premises in Blackheath, Cape Town.
