Daikin Keeps Cool and Goes Green

Preservation of the environment is a key priority for Daikin, a pre-eminent maker of residential, commercial and industrial Air Conditioning Systems worldwide.  In line with this priority Daikin has pledged its commitment to sinking some of the associated carbon emissions by planting a tree with every Inverter project embarked upon.

Inverter technology reduces energy consumption by up to 30% more than the average non-inverter system.  A non-inverter system is comparable to switching a light on or off whereby the system will begin to run on full load.  Inverter technology on the other hand, gradually increases the capacity of the system based on the amount of energy required in the room to heat it up or cool it down.  All combinations of Daikin’s heating and cooling systems have built-in inverter control resulting in less energy consumption, rapid cooling and/or heating, stop/start cycles for constant temperatures and freedom from power surges.

Trees sponsored with each Daikin Inverter project will be distributed and planted by award-winning public benefit greening organisation Food & Trees for Africa (FTFA).  FTFA works with many companies to develop innovative projects to fund the distribution of trees to under-served communities living in barren and dusty townships across South Africa to promote environmental awareness and education, and to offset carbon emissions.  Carbon offsetting and generating awareness around climate change is a focal point of FTFA’s tree programmes and is creating exciting opportunities for companies to distribute thousands of trees nationwide.

St Michaels in Khayelitsha is where Daikin will be donating  fruit trees. 220 children in this impoverished area attend the preschool at St Michaels of which 70 are affected or infected with HIV. St Michaels also has a food tent where they feed people as well as try to educate members in the community to grow their own food. The Heart organisation assists St Michaels with this.

“Given that Daikin’s environmental objectives include a focus on, amongst others, the sustainable use of energy, the development of products with reduced environmental impact and to be a model of environmental responsibility, providing trees for community projects is a greening project in South Africa that they are proud to be associated with,” said Paul Meinking, Managing Director of Daikin South Africa.

The tree planting event will take place on the 5th of November 2009 at 09h30 at St Micheals in Khayelitsha.
